Thought i would share some info for those who are new or may not know about tuning. This is a good link that explains suspension. Its for real cars but the theory is the same. www.rapid-racer.com/suspension-tuning.php

To determine overal gear ratio look up your internal gear box ratio from the manufacturer and add that to your spur to pinion ratio.
To determine distance traveled per tire revolution put mark on your tire.then line that up on 0 on a ruler. Then rotate the tire till it comes back to the mark.the number it lands on will be the distance traveled.
Now if you know the rpm of your motor you can determine the mathematical top speed of your vehicle. Depending on the power of your motor and the capability of your batteries to power your motor to ita fullest the actual speed can vary as much as 15% to 20% percent from the math. resistance both aero and mechanical will also affect final track speed.

First we need to determine the overal no load rpm of your motor. If the Kv of your motor is 5000 and your battery voltage is 7.2 then the rpm would be 36000 rpm.
If the overal gear ratio is 6 to 1 then the wheel axel rpms would be 36000 / 6 = 6000.
If the distance traveled by the tires is 6 inches then the inches per minutes will be 6000 x 6 = 36000.
Multiply that by 60 to get inches per hour 36000 x 60= 2160000.
Divide that by 63360 which is how many inches per mile. 2160000 / 63360 = 34.091 which is the mathematical mph

Just throw a 20 tooth pinion on her and see how hot she is after 3 minutes. If your motor is less than 150 degrees youre good to go. LOL

I've found that with our track you need to gear a shade lower than the recommended gearing for a said vehicle to compensate for heat build up. This is especially true in the 4wd class. I went from a 14 to a 13 tooth pinion and might go to a 12 just to get a little more punch on the straight. I'm far from winding out my 4600kv as is so ill take all the bottom end I can get
